While some only know of the fictional Enterprise or the nuclear carrier (and namesake) USS Enterprise, the author lets readers view into the one U.S. warship that virtually ruled the Pacific during WWII from the infamous day on December until she had her combat days ended in by a Japanese kamakazi in the waning days of the war/5().

"The Big E" is an excellent book, but the author clearly states that the story of the Enterprise is the story of its air wing. I strongly disagree with that. Although I liked reading about the history of its air groups, that book left me wanting for the story of the ship itself.

USS Enterprise (CV-6) is exactly that/5(18). CVN 65 the USS Enterprise decommissioned after 50 years of active service to the United States navy, the world's first nuclear powered aircraft carrier, at well over a thousand feet in length and 5, crew, this book covers this distance of time in a volume some nearly 2 inches thick, crammed with over pictures a lot taken by the author himself are liberally interlaced throughout/5(15).

The story of the USS Enterprise encompasses all but the last few months of World War II and is therefore also an outstanding look at all the major battles of the Pacific war.

The book benefits (as so many "war books" don't) from an author with an excellent command of the English language who brings a tale of warfare to life as few others have/5(56).

If there is any one ship that symbolizes the efforts, trials and victories of the US Navy in the war against Japan in the Pacific Ocean during the Second World War, it is the USS Enterprise, and this book tells the wartime story of the ship and her crew/5.

Enclosed with the book is a fabulous CD-ROM that gives viewers a detailed tour of the Enterprise. This remarkable software program was developed in close cooperation with the creators of the Star Trek sets that were used in the films and on the television series/5(60).

Packed with pictures, both well known and rarely seen. Very popular with Enterprise admirers, and deservedly so.
